General Crerar

Henry Duncan Graham Crerar
(28th April 1888 - 1st April 1965) 

General Crerar graduated from the Royal Canadian Military College at Kingston (Ontario) in 1910. During the First World War, he served in the 1st Canadian Division as artillery officer. After the 1918 armistice, he continued his career in the army.  

Crerar fought in Sicily and in Italy. From March 1944, he travelled to England to participate in the planning of Operation Overlord at the head of the Canadian 1st Army. His troops landed at Juno Beach and laid siege to the city of Caen, which did not fall until the end of July 1944.
